To the Day I Still Remember There was a time in college when I never had a girlfriend. Almost all of my friends were in relationships, while I was just watching life from the sidelines. I never really complained, but sometimes I wondered what it would feel like if someone genuinely liked me. One day, a female friend asked me to go to McDonald's with her. My first response was no. I didn't think much of it and felt it was better not to go. Later that day, I kept thinking about it. A small part of me wondered, What if she likes me? What if this means something? Those thoughts convinced me to change my mind, so I agreed to go with her. We spent some time together, talking and enjoying a simple meal. To me, it was just a pleasant moment that made me feel noticed. But when one of my friends found out, he became angry with me. I never expected that reaction. I wasn't trying to hurt anyone or come between anyone. I was simply following my curiosity and accepting an invitation. Looking back now, I realize how quickly we create stories in our minds about what someone feels, what an invitation means, or how others will react. Sometimes those stories are true. Sometimes they aren't. Even today, I still remember that ordinary trip to McDonald's because it taught me that the smallest moments can leave the biggest memories.
